Samsung Looks Beyond Google Gemini New Era of Smartphone AI

In a significant move to redefine smartphone intelligence, Samsung is looking to go in the opposite direction of Google’s Gemini AI and is considering offering multiple AI assistants with its next Galaxy devices. There is speculation that Samsung is in strategic negotiations with AI companies such as Perplexity AI and OpenAI to introduce a more dynamic and user-centric AI experience on its flagship devices, now that the Galaxy S26 series is imminent.

The Future of AI in Your Pocket

Let’s analyze the importance of this change and its implications for users, as well as how it engages with the ever-changing AI landscape in mobile from a different paradigm.

Up until now, Samsung has been dependent on Google’s Gemini AI and all AI features available on the Galaxy S24 and S25 smartphones (e.g., Circle to Search, Live Translate, and Generative Edit).

But now, Samsung’s vision goes beyond a single AI assistant.

Samsung Mobile’s executive Choi Won-Joon recently confirmed in an interview that the company aims to provide users with more choices and is actively exploring collaborations with other AI developers, including Perplexity AI, a rising competitor known for its accuracy in real-time search and conversational responses.

We want to give Galaxy users the choice of AI that is the best fit for their needs,” said Choi.

Why Is Samsung Moving Beyond Gemini?

Samsung showcases its commitment to developing a stronger multi-AI landscape, and here are some of the key reasons:

1. Shafting of AI Capabilities

Each AI assistant has their distinct advantages.

While Gemini is excellent at summarizing and integrating across Google services, others like Perplexity excel at search, and OpenAI’s ChatGPT offers deep conversational capabilities. Samsung wants to tap into each of these.

2. User-Centric Personalization

The goal is simple: Let users pick their preferred AI assistant depending on the task—be it answering questions, drafting messages, or summarizing documents.

3. Avoiding Monopolization of Google

The move shows that Samsung wants to enable a more open and flexible AI landscape for itself, moving away from just a single provider.

What Is Coming with the Galaxy S26?

Expected to be released early in 2026, the Galaxy S26 series will likely be the first smartphone series to provide multiple AIs as part of the device. While Gemini may still be included, Samsung is planning to offer options like Bixby, Perplexity, and possibly ChatGPT side by side.

Anticipated Features:

Switch Between AI Assistants: Choose your preferred AI depending on your need or app.

Integrated Multimodal AI: Smarter camera features, real-time editing, contextual responses.

Next-Gen Hardware Support: Powered by Exynos 2600 or Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 to handle AI processing locally.

Better Creativity Tools: AI-assisted image editing, voice dictation, and creative writing apps.

The Bigger Picture: How This Impacts the AI Landscape

What does it mean for you?

Choice & Freedom: No more relying solely on Google’s ecosystem.

Better Performance: Use lightweight AI models locally without relying on cloud connections.

Privacy Options: Choose AI services based on your privacy preferences.

Future-Proofing: Your phone stays compatible with the latest in AI innovation.

FAQs: Samsung’s Multi-AI Future

Will the switch between AIs be in a streamlined fashion?

Yes, Samsung is developing an interface that will allow switching between assistants directly through a unified hub.

Will Gemini still be involved?

Most probably. Gemini from Google will still be a core part of Android, but the expectation is that there may be other AIs preloaded or available to install.

What about security and privacy?

Each AI will have its privacy settings, but Samsung says they are also working on secure processing, primarily for sensitive tasks.

When will the Galaxy S26 launch?

The Galaxy S26 series is expected to be announced in Q1 2026, but AI features could be previewed sooner, as part of software updates.
