Atal Tunnel Manali is the world’s longest highway tunnel. Yes, it is true & breaks all the records for the world’s longest highway tunnel. Atal tunnel name comes from Prime minister of India Atal Bihari Bajpayee. Atal Tunnel is built under the Rohtang Pass in the Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas. It connects both Leh-Manali to each other.
About Atal Tunnel-
Atal tunnel distance is about 1000 feet and its length is about 9.02 Km. Height is about 9840 ft. Atal tunnel’s south portal is nearby Manali & north portal is nearby Sissu. Its building cost is about INR 3200 crore. This tunnel also offers 4G internet connectivity. Everywhere cameras were placed at 60 meters in the Atal tunnel.
Atal Tunnel Length-
Already I have told you about the length of 9.02 km. Atal tunnel is the longest highway single tube tunnel. This tunnel is also above 10,000 feet (3,048 m) in the world. The Atal tunnel is built by Borders Roads Organizations (BRO). Now, the travel time between Manali & Leh is about 4 to 5 hours. Atal tunnel is fully operational year-round and Leh could be accessed throughout the year from Mainland India. Atal tunnel project took about 10 years for the Indian Army’s elite road construction agency to complete the tunnel. The estimated cost of the Atal Tunnel is Rs 3,300 crore.
